Our mission is to disprove the idea that data breaches are an intractable problem and that advanced technology requires the sacrifice of privacy. As such, we provide data management technology that will efficiently prevent data breaches and empower data owners to self-determine their privacy.
Krate will build a future where the sovereignty of data owners is recognized as a global human right and where technology empowers them to effectively and efficiently enforce their rights.
Michael and Caitlin Thoreson, our founders, have suffered for over a decade from damages caused by numerous data breaches which have led to multiple identity thefts, name changes, and inaccurate information on credit reports.
This motivated the founders to find a solution, and when one couldn’t be found, they decided to make one. In May 2016 Michael started architecting a solution that would allow our data driven world to function without the need to give up control of or disclose your data.
In November 2017 KRATE Distributed Information Systems was launched to introduce to the world the KRATE Cloud: A Cloud Marketplace for Self-Sovereign Identity, Compute, Storage, and Network Resources.
The KRATE Cloud is backed by Krate Distributed Information Systems Incorporated(Krate Inc), a Saskatchewan Corporation, incorporated under The Business Corporations Act on November 21st, 2017, and is headquartered in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada.
Krate Inc is responsible for the initial development of the KRATE Cloud to ensure the highest quality of software development that exceeds regulatory requirements. After the initial release of the KRATE Cloud, the project will be opened to the community to permit and promote the continued development and contribution to the code base.
Krate Inc will continue to oversee the project – not as a corporate owner, but rather as a curator. In this capacity, Krate Inc will be a contributor to the KRATE Cloud the same as any community member would, with the added support of its advisors and partners.
